Fragment #ES 76, a remnant of limestone from the US Pentagon which was damaged by a terrorist attack on 9-11-01, made its way to Florence to be installed as a memorial in the Florence Veterans Park. When Colonel Barry Wingard delivered the stone that had been salvaged from the attack site, a community effort began to construct a suitable monument. Alex Palkovich designed the metal sculpture to clasp the fragment, and it was then welded by ESAB using Nucor steel.
The 9-11 sculpture was dedicated on 9-11-11, ten years after the tragedy that transformed Americans lives forever.
