Lake City is a small town loaded to the brim with arts! All year long, there are exhibits of Smithsonian caliber (like Francisco Goya’s Los Caprichos exhibit) displayed at the Jones-Carter Gallery, and the Lake City Artists Guild has ongoing workshops and exhibits.
In late April and early May, all of Lake City turns into an artsfest during Artfields, the southeastern art competition with the largest prize amounts – artists of the chosen works of art win $120,000 in cash prizes. The works of art are displayed in venues in the downtown – in local eateries, boutiques, styling salons, and gathering places – and winners are chosen by votes from Artfields attendees and a juried panel of visual arts professionals. During the ten-day event, there are also art and ag symposiums, symphonies performing in the Moore Farms Botanical Garden, and art workshops hosted by Artfields competitors.
The performing arts are vibrant in Lake City, too. Lake City Concert Series brings a season of fine arts performances to town each year, and the Lake City Community Theatre performs incredible musicals at the Blanding Street Auditorium. Lake City Community Chorale has also been established to provide high quality choral music.
