ArtFields 2019 Serves as Arts Mecca for Nine Days Starting April 26
One can accomplish a lot in nine days. Landscape a yard. Remodel a kitchen. Storyboard the next great American novel. Or perhaps take in ArtFields 2019 in Lake City, exploring the annual art festival and competition in its seventh year!
From Friday, April 26 until Saturday, May 4, one of the biggest art festivals in the U.S. Southeast takes over Lake City, placing artwork in nearly 50 venues (in addition to temporary art installations and murals), hosting lucrative and reputation-making art competitions, and offering a wide variety of special events.
Speaking of special events, many of the most popular ones return this year, such as:
- Color Me 5K—April 27, 7:30-11am
The Bean Market
Take a run through downtown where YOU become the canvas, being splashed with color along the route. Then join Field Day activities on the Village Green while waiting race results. www.strictlyrunning.com
- Makers Market—April 27, 11-6pm; Apr 28 1-6pm
Atlantic Coastline Building shopping with a diverse amount of goods from artisans and others!
- ArtFields Portrait Contest—April 27, 12-4pm
Downtown Lake City
Free fun for the entire family with food trucks, bands, music, bubbles, art and much more!
- Dandelion Gala—May 2, 7-10pm
The Bean Market
A culinary and musical experience where food is offered by Chef Sherif Elkhyati of The Inn at the Crossroads, and specialty cocktails and mocktails prepared by Corx Bartending. Guests are encouraged to dress in all white to transform the room into a field of flowing dandelions while listening and dancing to the music of Party ATL. Tickets: www.eventbrite.com
But free daily events center on the artwork from hundreds of artists from 12 southeastern states that will be on display (including from South Carolina students). More than $140,000 in prize money will be awarded to winning artists! Winners are determined by popular choice and a juried panel.
Daily ArtFields activities include ArtFields competitions, ArtFields Jr. competitions, and voting for People’s Choice Awards.
And don’t miss ArtFields Jr., Educational ArtWalks and ArtFields tours. Live music will also waft through weekends.
The temporary art installations are expected to be another hit. Two new murals will include one by Donald Walker at an old car wash on the corner of Church and Sauls streets; and another by Andrew and Sarah Wilson on Sauls Street close to the train tracks. Other locations will include the cut-through between Main Street and the Village Green, and the sculpture garden at TRAX Visual Art Center and Moore Farms Botanical Garden.
This is just the tip of the iceberg! For a full schedule of events, art venue locations and other information can be found at artfieldssc.org (click on events).
