Art, Science and History combine in this hands-on exploration of natural indigo. Educators will explore the importance of the indigo plant to South Carolina’s early agricultural economy, learn the science behind this unique dye plant, and create an original work of textile art using indigo dye. This multi-disciplinary lesson can be adapted for a wide range of grade levels. Each participant will receive one flour sack towel for dyeing, indigo seeds for planting, and a standards-based lesson plan and resource guide for classroom use.
