TRAX Visual Art Center will host 2 exhibits from December 4 through March 13: The Supper Table and Kirland Smith.

What is The Supper Table?  The Supper Table, an homage to the 40th anniversary of Judy Chicago’s 1979 epic feminist art exhibition, is a multidisciplinary arts project celebrating the history and contributions of 12 extraordinary South Carolina women. The brainchild of writer, editor, and Jasper Project executive director Cindi Boiter, The Supper Table features the work of almost 60 of South Carolina’s most outstanding women artists in the visual, literary, theatrical, and film arts.

Artist Kirkland Smith: For a decade, Kirkland Smith has been creating contemporary assemblages using everyday disposable materials as an evocative way to drive home the message of the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. Through her work, she challenges viewers to consider their consumer habits and believes “what we throw away says a lot about who we are, but what we choose to cherish and protect says even more.” Native to SC, Kirkland grew up in Mt. Pleasant, received her B.A. in Studio Art at USC, and studied classical painting and drawing at Studio Escalier in France. Kirkland and her husband, James, have 4 children.
