Florence Flamingos Debut with a New Name, New Uniforms and a New Stadium!

The long wait is over! The Florence Flamingos were scheduled to take to the field Saturday (May 28) for their double debut—premiering their new name and uniforms but also their new Carolina Bank Field!

“The response from the community has been outstanding,” said team president Cameron Kovach. “Our home opener sold out weeks in advance and many of our other games are trending towards sellouts as well.”

Ticket sales are not the only barometer indicating the team rebranding and buzz is catching on. “Merchandise continues to fly off the shelves, not only locally but nationally and internationally,” he added.

Founded in 1998, the team changed its name to the Flamingos at the end of the 2021 season. Just two weeks after rebranding they had sold merchandise in all 50 states and seven countries.

In partnership with Carolina Bank, Carolina Bank Field was under construction until recently but was completed in time for the season. The 1,400-seat stadium home to Florence’s Coastal Plain League baseball team is the centerpiece of the city’s $16 million baseball and track complex. The stadium’s perks include VIP seating, party suites, a beer garden, a kids’ play area and group hospitality areas. The facility’s land was donated by Dr. Eddie Floyd and the new stadium sits behind the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center just off Jennie O’Bryan Avenue.

The summer collegiate wooden bat baseball team unsurprisingly sold out its home opener for Saturday which will include fireworks, but many home games remain as seen at florenceflamingos.com.

The main draw will continue to be high-quality baseball to go with wacky skits, exciting theme nights and fireworks shows, but there will be new and wild in-game promotions as well. New promotional nights include Bark at the Park and the Star Wars Night (may the home runs be with you!). Those new promotions go along with some popular returning ones, such as the long-standing “Spirit of Florence” and “Faith & Fellowship Night”.

The Flamingos also recently announced the creation of the Florence Baseball Walk of Fame at the new field to honor Florence’s deep history with baseball that has featured locally born Major League Baseball players such as Reggie Sanders and Orlando Hudson, and others who played professional ball here such as Pat Borders, Fred McGriff, Cecil Fielder and Kevin Youkilis. Fans participated in the selection process.

What about the actual baseball games? Lane Harvey takes over as head coach as the team looks to return to winning ways.

Key players look to include (roster changes are expected) two Francis Marion University players: Will Hardee batted .405 for the Patriots this past season and finished the year on a 26-game hitting streak and third baseman Todd Mattox hit .393 with 46 RBI. The Citadel’s Devin Beckley had a 3.15 ERA with 75 strikeouts and 34 walks this past season. Also, UT-Tyler’s Kyle McShaffry batted .368 with five homers and 53 RBI this season.

Tickets. Let’s talk tickets.

The many changes also mean fans have new ticket packages to choose from.
