Thanksgiving has come and gone, and suddenly there’s this reddish, goldish hue emanating from homes and businesses everywhere. It can only mean…Christmas lights! And that can only mean Christmas is around the corner and the holiday season is fully upon us!

As usual, the area is already loading up their schedules with awesome, wintry events for families to enjoy, so we are running down a list to make it easier to enjoy them.

Nov. 29

A Pee Dee Christmas
7:30pm First Presbyterian Church

The sounds and songs of Christmas captured by The Florence Men’s Choral Society…with audience participation!

Nov. 30-Dec. 1

The Journey – A Family Christmas Show
7pm SiMT – Florence-Darlington Technical College

Presented by ChristPoint Church, The Journey, A Family Christmas Show, is told through drama, comedy, laughter and tears. Tickets are $5. Available at the door or in advance at The Salon and Cottril’s Landmark Art.

Timmonsville Tree Lighting, Parade & Festival

Timmonsville’s tree lighting is 5:30pm Nov. 30 and its parade is 10:30am Saturday, Dec. 1 followed by a festival from 11:30am-2pm.

The Nutcracker Ballet

A spectacular quarter mile trail of thousands of lights, merry music and festive decorations, all to benefit the animals of the Florence Area Humane Society. See Santa, sip hot chocolate, munch cookies and warm up with a fire (also dog treats for the canine friends-dogs on leashes please). Donations are gratefully accepted.

Nov. 30-Dec. 2

The Living Christmas Tree
7pm Friday, 3pm Saturday, Florence Baptist Temple

A food drive for the 25th year, last year over 10 tons of food, distributed to 9 local agencies and directly to 120 families were collected!

Dec. 1

First Reliance Christmas Village
10am-4pm 2170 W Palmetto St.

Southern Scratch Bakery will have a vendor booth and delicious treats will be on sale such as cake jars, cookies, cake slices, whole cakes etc. Bring your kids and have a free picture with Santa too!

Breakfast with Santa & Wildlife Winterfest (two events)
8:45-noon Lynches River County Park

Breakfast with Santa from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Tickets $8 per person include a free photo with Santa and a goodie bag. Reservations required!

Then animals from around the world in the Wonders of Wildlife animal show from 10am-noon. Make a toy in Santa’s workshop, enjoy s’mores and hot chocolate. This event is free and open to the public. Free photos with Santa will also be available from 10-11am to people bringing a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots, or a minimum of five items of non-perishable food for Harvest Hope Food Bank.

Garden Open: Winter Wonderland
8:30am-3:30pm Moore Farms Botanical Garden

Enjoy the cool weather with a walk in the garden! The garden will be shining with beautiful berries, bark, and winter blooming annuals and shrubs. Come stroll the garden to see all that winter has to offer. Admission is free of charge!

Barrineau Christmas Parade
11am-noon Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church

Bring your empty stomachs as there will be BBQ, chicken bog and other items to purchase the day of the event!

Family fun in Johnsonville with their annual parade!

Christmas open Greenhouses!
8:30am-5pm Forest Lake Greenhouses

Stop by for a cup of Christmas Cheer and enter to win a $75 Gift Card. Take a tour of the growing greenhouses, too.

Santa’s Cookie Problem and Cookies with Santa
11-12:30pm Florence Little Theatre and FLT Friends

Schoolhouse Players presents Santa and his elves, who play a joke on Santa, swapping his regular costume for a smaller one. Santa and Mrs. Claus think he is eating too many cookies! Recommended ages 2-10. Length 30 minutes. Tickets $5 all ages. Reserved Seating. Afterward, Cookies with Santa is $10 including a treat, cookie, beverages, and a keepsake picture. Make reservations at the FLT office at 662-3731.

8th Annual Holiday Tour of Homes
2-5pm various homes

The Florence Symphony Guild’s event has tickets available from members or at First Reliance Bank, Taylor’s Garden and Gift Shop, Talbot’s and Cynthia’s. Advanced Tickets $15 or $20 at the door. Homes featured: 523 Ridgewood Dr; 1417 St. James Court; 1220 McIntosh Woods; 1018 Jackson Ave.; and two downtown condos, 130-B Courthouse Sq; 155-A North Dargan St.

Service of the Longest Night
5pm Central UMC

Designed to provide hope and comfort for those whose needs and feelings are often forgotten and for those who are “feeling blue” this holiday season. The service lasts an hour and includes prayer, music, and a quiet time to remember your loved one. The Reverend Tom Pietila will share a short message.

Santa Cares
10:30am Magnolia Mall

Children within every spectrum of special needs and their families are invited to a private photo session to meet with Santa Claus. Complimentary tickets must be secured on Eventbrite – ONE TICKET per group/family, please: https://bit.ly/2FJ7gi5. Visits with Santa are free. Photo packages that capture holiday memories will be available for purchase at the event.

35th Lions Club Toy Ride
2pm (meets at noon) Florence Center

Black Jack Harley-Davidson and The Florence Lions Club presents a police escort to the Florence Fair Grounds from the Florence Center. $20 per person donation or a new toy of equal or greater value. Meal included at the end of the ride with live auction and door prizes. Benefiting children of the Pee Dee.

Chancel Handbell Choir

Ring in the holiday season with sounds of the season from the Chancel Handbell Choir in the Sanctuary!
This is free event is a tradition rich with Christmas melodies from around the globe.

Dec. 6

Gingerbread Night
6:30-8pm Baker’s Sweets Bistro and Bakery – Lake City

Enjoy hot chocolate and wassail while building your own gingerbread house. They will provide icing, gumdrops and peppermints. Arrive at 5pm for dinner for a 10% discount. Purchases must be made in store and in person.

McLeod Hospice Tree Lighting Ceremony
5:45pm at McLeod Regional Medical Center

CDC Christmas Celebration
6:30pm First Presbyterian Child Development Center

This year the annual event is in the church sanctuary. Join them for a special evening with live entertainment featuring CDC star performers! A cookie and punch reception will follow in the Jenkins Fellowship Hall.

5th Annual Festival of Wreaths
5:30-7pm Elmcroft Senior Living Center

There’s new music and more amazing lights at the Florence City/County Tree Lighting that leads into the next event on the list, Downtown Christmas Magic!

Downtown Christmas Magic

Come Downtown Florence for FREE Christmas Magic! Enjoy live music by entertainers on the Holly Jolly Main Stage, the Jingle + Mingle Kids Zone and a special visit with Santa. Also a tacky sweater contest, holiday craft night market, ice skating, marshmallow roasting, food vendors, holiday movies and free hot chocolate.  Includes the Pee Dee Tubachristmas concert at 8:30pm.

Hometown Holidays Festival
10am Lake City Downtown Historic District (Dec. 7-9)
Dec. 7 shop & stroll the decorated Downtown streets and stay for the Greater Lake City Chamber of Commerce’s classic holiday parade and City tree lighting! Dec. 8 includes live holiday music and dance performances. Sunday’s scheduled activities include the Junior Sorosis Club’s Christmas Tour of Homes, and FREE professional photo sessions with NDC Photography. Also show off your ice-skating skills for FREE on the temporary ice rink located inside The Bean Market.

Winter Ice Skating
Various times at Florence Center

Public ice skating at the Florence Center in 2-hour time frames. Ticket Prices: Adults $9, Kids under 12 $7, Skate Rental $3-or bring your own skates. Dec. 7-8, 14-16, 21-22

Florence Festival of Lights
6-9pm Hoffmeyer Place

Drive through Christmas light displays then park for Santa’s Village—benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. There will be Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus (children photos with Santa or at Christmas-themed cutouts). Write a note to Santa and drop it in his mailbox. A balloon artist will also be there. For a small fee there will be hot chocolate, hot apple cider and popcorn, along with other refreshments.


Dec. 8

Craig’s Christmas Village Drive-Thru and Sign Shop
after dark 3406 Peniel Rd. Timmonsville

A free drive-thru site that features many exhibits are cars wind through the grounds. Includes a place where cars can stop and kids can sign their names.

Family Day at the Florence County Museum – Holiday Open House

Free of charge, FCM offers gingerbread house decorating, as well as the opportunity to make yarn hat ornaments, holiday crackers, winter luminaries and wrapping paper!

Pamplico Christmas Parade, Santa Pics, Fundraiser
11am Downtown

Following the annual parade, Santa pics at Pamplico Rescue. Also a chicken bog fundraiser. Tickets are $8 per plate and are available at Pamplico Town Hall and Citizens Bank.

McLeod Toy Ride
9am-5pm Black Jack Harley-Davidson to McLeod Children’s Hospital

The 4th Annual Toy Ride leaves at noon (register early). Bring in ANY unwrapped Toy for the ride and ANY unwrapped Toy for a photo with Santa. Breakfast will be served from 9am-11am. The Ride will go to McLeod Children’s Hospital, where children will get the gifts, see the motorcycles and pictures will be taken at the hospital.

Holiday Craft and Wreath Wonderland
10am-11:30am (Crafts); 10am-2pm (Wreaths) Moore Farms Botanical Garden

There are two events at Moore Farms:
First, spend the morning fashioning your magic world using natural materials to build a home fit for a fairy! Each child will go home with a fairy garden to keep.

The Christmas Star

This FREE program looks at the different possibilities for the Christmas Star based on a script written by Mr. James “Ed” Dooley. Due to the popularity of this program, if the auditorium fills prior to 3pm the show will start early and a second show will be offered 1 hour later. A sign will be hung on the door with the 2nd show start time.

Holiday Shopping Helping Shelters
11am-4pm Jayne Boswell Animal Shelter 1434 S. McCurdy Rd. 

Shop with vendors present and think about adopting a furry friend! A portion of the benefits go toward the Jayne Boswell Animal Shelter.

Dec. 11

Columbia City Ballet performs The Nutcracker 
7:30pm Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center

Dec. 13

Library Children’s Christmas Program
3:30pm Florence County Public Library at 509 S Dargan St.

From Porkchop Productions, the “Holly and the Snowman” children’s play features Holly the Elf as she deals with how to make a snowman when it’s 98 degrees. Also features Jack Frost, who will either change his icy ways, or foil Holly’s plans.

A Christmas Carol
7:30-9:30pm Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center

It just isn’t Christmas without A Christmas Carol! Experience Charles Dickens’ classic as Ebenezer Scrooge takes you on a life-changing journey about the true meaning of the holiday. Tickets here: fmupac.org

Annual Christmas Parade in Florence

The parade will start on Evans (Edisto) Street, ending at the Business Technological Center (BTC) Building on Baroody and East Evans.

Holiday Garlands
10am-2pm Moore Farms Botanical Garden

It’s greenery garlands galore! Add natural beauty to your home with handcrafted garlands by using fresh greenery such as cypress, arborvitae, magnolia and so much more. In this class, you’ll learn the steps to turn unassuming branches and foliage into beautiful pieces of festive cheer.

Tiga from Breakthru Beverage will be here pouring 5 featured wines handpicked for the Holidays. Break out your ugly Christmas sweaters and join the fun!
