The Revolutionary Rivers

Col Francis Marion - the Swamp Fox

The SC Revolutionary Rivers Trail® follows the Lynches Scenic River from Lynches River County Park to the cypress and tupelo-laden stomping grounds of Revolutionary War hero General Francis Marion. The fact Marion and his band of militia could simply disappear into the cypress swamplands earned him the name Swamp Fox.
Designated as a National Water Trail in 2022, the 66-mile trail offers paddlers a captivating experience of floating through swampland that was once traversed by Patriots engaged in guerrilla warfare against the Loyalists.
These stretches of river appeal to more than just history enthusiasts – birders and ecologists appreciate this terrain’s rich biodiversity as well.
The SC Revolutionary Rivers Trail features a series of short excursions and overnight rustic camping opportunities, as well as a platform campsite.

RiverRat’s Kayak & Canoe Rentals

Barry Frick has always been known as the RiverRat. He’s paddled Lynches River since he was just a boy. In 2008, Barry bought six old canoes from a buddy. He would let his friends borrow them, then one day they started paying him to use them, next thing you know other people are asking to borrow them. And just like that, RiverRat’s began. We now house 100 or more boats and take trips down Lynches River seven days a week.
