The 1857 Columns Plantation is an outstanding example of Greek Revival architecture. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it is the last working plantation in the area. Each March, it hosts the reenactment of the Skirmish at Gamble's Hotel, a Civil War encounter which occurred in Florence on March 5, 1865.
Just east of Florence, in the area surrounding Francis Marion University, is Mars Bluff, which provides an unique perspective of African-American heritage in our region.

The Dooley Planetarium is located on the second ﬂoor of the Cauthen Educational Media Center on the Francis Marion University campus. The planetarium features a new state-of-the-art Digistar 5 projection system under a 33 foot dome, and it seats 73 people.
The Environmental Discovery Center (EDC) at Lynches River County Park provides a learning experience that is ever-changing and leaves you wanting to come back soon. Based on mixing nature with technology to make the outdoors more comfortable for modern kids, the EDC has web cams, weather stations, a microeye microscope, animal furs, and a paddling simulator.
Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center's schedule is filled with top-level entertainment ranging from Broadway musicals to Florence Symphony Orchestra.
Located on Lynches River, the 676-acre Lynches River County Park features a river swamp with towering cypress trees as well as sand hills offering a wide variety of vegetation. The Environmental Discover Center provides plenty of activities, and there is a swinging boardwalk out into the tree top canopy.
During the summer, the Splash Pad is a popular place to cool off.
Popular activities at the park include canoeing, nature trails, picnicking, and geocaching. The 11,000-square-foot community building can accommodate groups of 20-400 people.

Conveniently located at the intersections of I-95 and I-20, the Florence Civic Center, an SMG-managed facility is the hub for entertainment and civic events in Florence. It's a 10-time recipient of the Prime Site Award from Facilities Magazine.
Florence Civic Center is the largest convention, entertainment, and exhibition facility in northeast South Carolina - with over 50,000 square feet of multipurpose space. The future looks promising for the Center with the announcement of an expansion project, which broke ground in the winter of 2016.
Florence is the place to be during race week for the Bojangles’ Southern 500! The Xfinitiy Series and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races are held each year at the Darlington Raceway on the Labor Day weekend.
