Land & Water Exhibition Talk
142 N Dargan St, Florence, SC 29506, USA
Join exhibiting artists April Flanders and Josh Winkler, along with Dr. Jason Doll, Director of the FMU Freshwater Ecology Center, for a conversation exploring the environmental themes behind Land & Water.
Land and Water: Environmental Conflict and Connection in the American Landscape brings together printmakers April Flanders and Josh Winkler, whose work explores the complex relationship between people and the natural world. Flanders examines marine ecosystems threatened by invasive species, microplastics and climate change. Her large-scale installation Trophic Cascade features 182 species of marine bio-invaders created through monotype, screenprint and papercutting, alongside works focused on environmental impacts within the Pee Dee River Basin. Winkler’s panoramic woodcut prints explore drought, wildfire, deforestation and a warming climate across Appalachian and American landscapes. Together, the artists consider environmental change, ecological interdependence and the enduring connections between people and place.
