Discover Lynches River County Park

Travel just outside the city of Florence to explore Lynches River County Park, a 676-acre outdoor destination located along the historic Lynches Scenic River between Florence and Lake City. With towering cypress trees, sandy hills, longleaf pine communities, wetlands, and riverfront scenery, the park showcases several of the natural habitats found throughout South Carolina’s Pee Dee region.

First, follow the park’s hiking trails, river boardwalk, and family-friendly TRACK Trail for an up-close look at the surrounding landscape. Along the way, watch for native birds, turtles, deer, and other wildlife that make their homes near the river.

Additionally, visitors can rent a canoe or kayak and launch from the park’s accessible boat landing. The park is located along the South Carolina Revolutionary Rivers National Water Trail, making it an excellent starting point for paddlers who want to experience the area’s natural beauty while exploring waterways connected to the region’s Revolutionary War history.

For even more outdoor recreation, challenge yourself on the archery range, climbing wall, or 18-hole disc golf course. During the warmer months, children can cool off at the splash pad, while other visitors can enjoy fishing, geocaching, picnicking, the dog park, or miles of scenic trails.

Next, stop inside the Environmental Discovery Center, a LEED-certified nature center featuring live animal ambassadors, interactive exhibits, and educational programs focused on the plants and wildlife of the Pee Dee region. From there, climb to the treetop canopy walk for a bird’s-eye view of the forest and wetlands below.

Finally, consider extending your outdoor adventure with an overnight stay. Lynches River County Park offers riverfront cabins, a family campground, and an equestrian campground, allowing visitors to spend more time hiking, paddling, relaxing, and reconnecting with nature.

I found Lynch's River County park using the Alltrails app. This park has a lot of amenities for the kids and U to enjoy. There were canoe and kayak rentals, a river board walk, a kid's park, a picnicking area, a fishing area, an area for archery, climbing wall, and a splash pad. The kids tried out tying knots. We walked on the treetop canopy and saw a lot of birds, trees, flowers, and bloom. There was even a boardwalk that goes along the river. In the Environmental Discovery Center, we saw snakes, turtles, alligator, and fish. The kids and I really enjoy exploring. We look forward to visiting this park again when the water level is higher.

This was our first time visiting, and we came prepared to stay for about a half a day and see what the place offered. We started out on the hiking trail, which went across some boardwalks, right along the river and turned into the woods where we hiked for about a mile in a loop. We met a couple of people along the route and then we headed up to the environmental center as there was supposedly a canopy book boardwalk, if the back door of that facility. Indeed. There was a canopy treetop rope, swing connected to a platform and in total. There were four rope swings with four platforms. I'm totally free of charge and no helmet or harness required which sounds a little scary but the sides of the bridge were shoulder high. Behind that is the playground and we heard quite a few children playing there before heading up the road about a quarter of a mile to the splash pad and picnic area. The splash pad was inside of a fence for protection of the children. I would assume and also they serve food, French, fries, chicken sandwiches. I saw cotton candy. I'm sure they have drinks. They also have a climbing wall and as we pulled up to the splash pad area, there was a sign outside that said the the climbing wall was open. The splash pad entry fee is $6 for the day other than that, everything else here was free. And I did not check on the climbing wall, it's probably not something that's going to happen in my future.

We went on a little walk through the woods on a small trail following the water. There is also a nice bridge walk that is good for folks with strollers. The catwalk. Which is up in the trees connecting them with thin loose bridges is awesome!
