Art of the Native South - Opening Reception
Jones-Carter Gallery | 105 Henry St, Lake City, SC 29560, USA
Join them from 6 – 8PM at Jones-Carter Gallery and TRAX Visual Art Center for the first look at two exhibitions.
The 250th anniversary of America’s independence offers a moment for both reflection and celebration. The First Peoples Project: Art of the Native South honors the enduring spirit, creativity, and contributions of America’s first artisans and craftspeople.
As part of Handwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026 – a nationwide initiative commemorating the Semiquincentennial – the First Peoples Project highlights the rich artistic and cultural traditions of Native Americans in the Southeast, acknowledging the earliest culture of makers to inhabit this land. Through two exhibitions, a series of public programs, dance, music, storytelling, and an Indian market, the project provides a platform for understanding and engagement with Native American art, culture and living traditions of indigenous federal and state recognized tribes in the Southeast.
