“Red Doe” refers to an incident during the Revolution when Patriot scout Andrew Hunter escaped on “Red Doe,” the horse of Loyalist Col. David Fanning. Red Doe, restored by Chisolm and Annie Wallace in 1940, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. In 2006 Robert P. Wilkins donated it to a nonprofit group for preservation.

Red Doe was the first choice of where my now husband, Chase, and I wanted to get married. I had kept up with the renovations of Red Doe from the beginning and knew it was the place I would love to get married at one day. Chelsea Guthrie was one of the first people I contacted when we started planning our wedding Back in December of 2019. Unfortunately, Red Doe was booked for our wedding date of 10/10/2020. We eventually made other plans and booked a church here in town for the ceremony and planned to have our reception at the Country Club. After almost all of the plans had been made, we were now at the beginning of August and in the middle of Covid and lots of restrictions. We found out that our plans at the church and Country Club were not going to work out and were faced with having to replan our wedding two months before the big day. I contacted Chelsea “just to confirm” that they were still booked for our date. When she called me back and let me know they had a cancellation for that date, the fact that we were having to redo all the plans we had originally made didn’t even matter anymore because we were now going to be able to have the wedding where we wanted it all along--Red Doe! When we met with Chelsea to discuss all things wedding related that had to be done in just two short months, she stepped up to the plate and was there every step of the way. She was so generous and helpful with all aspects and had great ideas that I was able to incorporate into the plans we already had. From figuring out vendors at the last minute to the set-up plan of the ceremony and reception, she was very flexible with us visiting and was happy to meet with us to get things done within our time restraint. Red Doe was perfect for a fall wedding. Our guests had plenty of room to feel comfortable (especially related to Covid) and everyone loved the property. My bridesmaids and I absolutely loved getting ready in the house and the brunch that was included in our package was the best addition to our morning. When it came time for the ceremony, being able to have my dad walk me down the front stairs of Red Doe to my husband was one of the highlights of the day and is a moment I will never forget. The lawn is perfect for a beautiful ceremony under the big trees and the sunset is in the perfect spot of the property for pictures. Red Doe and Chelsea made our wedding day the best day ever and I am so glad we are now a part of the “Red Doe Family!”

My fiance and I met Chelsea back in the fall of 2019 to look at the property for our upcoming wedding in March 2020. It was still under complete renovation. We were told that renovations were scheduled to be completed not until April 2020. My heart sank. Chelsea, very enthusiastically, said "Let's make it happen!" And....so we did! March 7, 2020 my husband and I were married on the gorgeous, freshly renovated, freshly painted staircase at Red Doe Plantation. There is not enough space to tell you about all the AMAZING things we experienced while working with the Red Doe team. They do everything in their power to make you feel like family. They are EXTREMELY helpful with everything from vendor recommendations, decorating ideas, to just love and support. If you're looking for a place to get married that feels like home....then look no further. Red Doe is it.❤

I can't say enough about how helpful Chelsea and Josh were in coordinating our wedding reception details. Because the wedding was planned for March 21st (right as the virus craziness began), we decided to change to an outdoor venue, and, they basically put a reception together with 2 days notice. Everything was beautiful and they were so accommodating and helpful! If you are trying to choose between Red Doe and another venue, do yourself a favor and choose them!!

I randomly met Chelsea, the owner of this place, at Starbucks on Palmetto and she was so engaged in working to update the space and plan events. Nonetheless she took the time to talk to me about the Plantation’s history and her vision for its future. We spoke at length about the event bookings for 2020 and I could tell how passionate she is about playing hostess the most important days in people’s lives. Red Doe seems like an ideal And welcoming location that can be easily outfitted for various type of events.
