Traveling back from Florida with my family last week, we decided to stop in the Florence area for a quick night's rest before heading on to New Jersey. We chose to stay at the Sleep Inn, which was rated 7.0 on Booking.com. I assumed it would be a decent place for the night. Honestly, I was surprised to see such a rating. When I entered the hallway, I noticed an unpleasant smell of stale air and mold, along with a strong scent of marijuana. Normally, I believe in letting others live their lives freely, but with three children—two of whom are under five—I wasn't too comfortable with it. Since we needed two rooms to accommodate six of us, and my family stayed in a separate room, my wife mentioned her room looked so dirty that it seemed like no one had cleaned it since the last guest. I also found an issue in my room—definitely black mold in the bathroom vents. When I inspected further in the morning, I saw that most of the vents were filled with mold. However, I want to say that the young lady at the front desk was very friendly, which is why I didn't rate the hotel lower. Having worked in the service industry myself, I truly value good service. Her attitude made a positive impression. Please note, I’m not here to bash this hotel. My goal is to help others who value a clean environment and have breathing sensitivities—especially to mold—so they can make an informed decision. I believe they genuinely try hard with the resources they have.

Check-in was very easy. The desk clerk was very polite and had good customer service. This was my first time staying at Sleep Inn at yhe advice of a friend. The room was very neat and I loved the shower. I will definitely be staying again soon.

For the price point this is a very well run motel, you can tell that the staff cares about their work. Easy check in, great breakfast, clean room. I have stayed at most of the motels on the area when I attend the races at Darlington and this was probably my best experience, even surpassing the high end places.

There was a situation with our room involving ants which is why I have taken some stars from my rating. My co-worker and I got to our room, everything seemed ok aside from an ant or two in the shower - we decided it would be fine. After taking a shower though - ants came POURING out of a crack between the floor and the shower. We requested a room change. The receptionist was happy to move us and mentioned that they had been having trouble with ants on that side of the hotel - if it was a known problem, why would we be placed in that room? Employees were all nice. Our room keys deactivated part-way through our stay and it was not hassle to re-activate them. Breakfast was decent. The usual fare - eggs, toast, etc.
